You, Me, and Pottery is a "paint your own" pottery studio. They are open to all the public and allow people to come in almost anytime the doors are open, as long as they have space. They have had major success in the downtown area of Prestonsburg, Ky because so many of the residents there love bringing the kids in to make personalized gifts for birthdays and celebrations. Customers pick their clay object, choose the colors of acrylic paint they want to use, and then paint it any way they want with their special some one in mind. You can either take it with you after you finished painting, or allow the workers to fire your item in their kiln and apply a beautiful shiny ceramic finishing coat. The studio is designed to engage all ages and truly has something for everyone. Under normal circumstances, they host events and have special activities for the holidays. People love You and Me Pottery and appreciate it being a part of our small town!
2. Mountain Art Center

The MAC is Prestonsburg’s go to for the best musical art experiences! They have performances by famous musicians and their very own Billie Jean Osborne’s Kentucky Opry and their Junior Opry. The Opry performs music from the pop genre to country, bluegrass, and many others. They host theatre art productions as well as the Big Sandy Idol events, which the Eastern, KY version of the American Idol TV show. It’s a 1,044 seat theatre. It has several large meeting rooms, a commercial recording studio, an art gallery, an arts education room, and several individual music instruction practice rooms. They offer music lessons too! You can find the MAC located conveniently on US 23, a road also nicknamed Country Music Highway.
3. The Art Gallery & Cedar Coal Exhibit
Both of these musuem-like displays are located within the Mountain Arts Center as well. The Art Gallery showcases local artist of various art styles including: traditional artists, digital artists, sculptors, and many others. The MAC Art Gallery changes exhibits many times throughout the year and local artists really enjoy getting their work displayed in such a hot spot of the area! Likewise, The CEDAR Coal Exhibit is a very popular gallery of coal mining-inspired art, photos, and actual artifacts used in the mines. Since the coal mining industry played such a prominent roll in so many lives and families in the area, they have no trouble filling this exhibit with beautiful art created by local artists!
4. Jenny Wiley Ampitheater
Jenny Wiley is a state park in Prestonsburg and within those hills is a our favorite theatre (especially since our only movie theater closed some years ago). The not-for-profit theater puts on productions of classic Broadway plays, comedies, historical dramas, and holiday productions at the Jenny Wiley Amphitheater and surrounding venues as well. Crowds gather in the summer to see the infamous story of Jenny Wiley acted out by passionate locals. They also host a Star City Shakespeare Festival during the summer that ends with the ever-growing Shakespeare in the Park day.
5. The Arty Bus Project
This is a photo taken one day as children from the community gathered by the Arty Bus that is made possible through the Star City Arts non profit organization and local charities. It's an exhibit on wheels dedicated to art engagement, education, and exposure. They are often seen around Prestonsburg among crowds of little kids. They teach art and allow kids to be creative while making their own art. They paint and craft and build community together. What more can you ask for? Star City Arts support many collaborative community art projects and do many great things bringing the everyone together for the purpose of art!
